American Rail Engineers (ARE) is growing and currently searching for a Senior Engineer.
This position will assist the principal engineer/President in managing staff and projects. The position is responsible for managing project schedules and budgets, providing QA/QC, mentoring staff and managing client relations/satisfaction. Typical ARE railroad projects include bridge inspections, bridge ratings, bridge assessments for acquisitions, bridge repair cost estimates and design, bid document preparation and support during construction.
Must be team oriented.
Possess strong communication skills (oral and written).
Desire to mentor young engineers.
Ability to work independently.
Complete and manage projects.
Qualify as a Railroad Bridge Engineer in accordance with FRA definition.
Knowledge of railroad bridge construction methods.
Experience working with and on railroad property.
Basic understanding of the fundamentals of railroad engineering including track, signals and operations.
Experience with geotechnical engineering, materials and hydrology/hydraulics is a plus.
Technologically savvy, including experience with engineering software such as SAP2000, AutoCAD, RISA and/or MathCAD, and a willingness to support ongoing database development.
Microsoft programs including Word and Excel. MS Project is a plus.
15-25 years of experience in bridge engineering, with a minimum of 10 years specific to railroad bridge engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
Professional Engineer (PE) required. Registration in NCEES and/or multiple states is desired.
Working relationships with railroads.
Ability to travel and perform bridge incident inspection, railroad bridge assessment, and observe bridges under construction. It's expected that this position will primarily be in the office, but occasional travel will be required.
Ability to work from an office, traveling and from home.
The position will require availability outside of standard office hours.
Valid Driver's License
