The Structural Analyst will support the Mechanical System functional area with performing structural analysis of mechanical components and systems. The Mechanical Systems IPT has ownership of the following subsystems:
Flight Control System
Landing Gear System
Wing Deployment System
Vehicle Separation Systems
The analyst will primarily perform structural analysis of homogenous metallic structures. The position will require performing analysis on large integrated mechanical systems as well as small mechanical components and mechanisms.
Understand, plan, and execute technical activities in accordance with SAS policies, procedures, and work instructions and specific customer requirements
Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of design and development activities
Prepare material for, and conduct, periodic design reviews
Execute engineering design and development activities consistent with Customer quality, cost, and schedule requirements
Use Finite Element, laminate theory, and classical method (hand calc) analysis methods to develop structural margins on all mechanical systems hardware
Develop models and apply applicable loads
Develop standard methods and tools for performing analysis
Use either FEMAP or NX for pre and post processing and NASTRAN as the solver
Other duties as assigned
Responsible for thoughtful adherence to all SAS Policies, Procedures, and Compliance regulations (internal and external)
Responsible for timely execution of all personnel-related activities such as Time Sheet completion, Performance Evaluations, Salary Reviews, Succession Planning, etc.
Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance may be required.

FEMAP, NX, NASTRAN, and NASGO
Mechanism structural analysis
Static test analysis and test correlation
Structures for aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles
Dynamic loads analysis
Development and application of spacecraft and aircraft loads and environments
Progressive failure analysis and damage tolerance
Familiarity with NASA and/or FAA structural design standards
Ability to rapidly work with minimal supervision on projects involving both small and large engineering teams
Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment with emphasis in rapid prototyping
Minimum physical requirements to perform all duties and responsibilities, as defined by management
Education and Experience
BS in related field
6+ years experience in a related field
Experience analyzing for typical space flight environments is considered a plus including acoustic, random vibe, and shock.
Experience in fatigue and fracture analysis is also desired including using NASGRO.
Previous experience and skills in project definition, simulation, implementation, lab integration and test
